In spring 2023, Pierre Augustin Rose proudly introduced the “Stone Collection” at the iconic Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. Originally constructed in 1929 to symbolize Germany at the Barcelona World’s Fair, this pavilion, designed by Mies van der Rohe himself, is a hallmark of modernist architecture noted for its pioneering use of materials such as marble, steel, glass, and travertine—making it a fitting venue for our launch.
The pieces in this collection, particularly marked by their use of travertine, engage in a nuanced conversation with the diverse materials that Mies van der Rohe embraced. Highlights include two new iterations of our Pietra tables, both round and oval, featuring travertine tabletops that boast a distinctive texture with natural cavities and veining.
Expanding the collection further, we introduced marble columns that resonate with the classical artistry often referenced by Pierre Augustin Rose. The Atlas desk, a showpiece of the “Stone Collection,” integrates elements from the smaller Atlas Mini. Its travertine surface, organically shaped, sits atop a robust oak base, presenting a striking interplay of textures and materials. This photoshoot at the pavilion not only showcased our latest designs but also reflected a seamless fusion of Pierre Augustin Rose’s timeless style with the architectural legacy of the former Bauhaus School director.
